The Army Institute of Law, Mohali organised the seventh edition of the National Moot Court Competition, “Checkmate, 2017” on 4th and 5th of March, 2017. The competition saw the participation of 30 teams from various law schools from across the country. The proposition was based on the legality of a novel phenomenon -cryogenic suspension. On 4th March, 2017 the preliminary and quarterfinal rounds were held. On 5th March, 2017 the semi final and final round were conducted. In the finals, two teams went head to head to win the prestigious trophy. They were judged by a bench which consisted of eminent people of the legal fraternity.
The valedictory function begun at 4 PM the same day with honourable justice S S Saron, P& H High Court as the chief guest and Shri Jyoti Sagar, chairman and founding partner of Jyoti Sagar Associates as the guest of honour. The winning teams were felicitated with awards and cash prices. The team from NUALS, Kochi was adjudged the best team and the runners up were RGNUL, Patiala. The best memo award was given to UIL, Ludhiana and the second best memo was given to Symbiosis, Hyderabad. The best advocate was Govindji Nayar from NUALS, Kochi and the second best advocate was Karyani from Dept. Of laws, Punjab University. The competition ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the esteemed principal of the institute, Dr. Tejinder Kaur.
