Army Institute of Law, organised the 6th Convocation Ceremony on the 12th October 2016, which saw the students from the Batch 2010-2015, 2011-2016 receive their degrees from the college. The MPH was ready, the Gowns ironed out, the carpets laid out, everyone was anxiously waiting to meet the students who have graduated and today were going to be back to collect their degrees.
The ceremony began with the Principal, Mrs. Tejinder Kaur declaring that the Convocation, open which was followed by a welcome address by the Chairman, AIL, Major General J.T. Chacko. Sir, welcomed the Batch of 2010-2015 and 2011-2016, the dignitaries who graced the ceremony, and all the guests who took out time to see the students graduate and receive their degrees.
Our Patron, Lieutenant General I. S. Ghuman, Chief of Staff, Chandimandir addressed the gathering following the release of the AIL Journal 2016. Sir, in his speech reiterated Justice V.K. Iyer’s four fundamental lessons to life and law. The first lesson, fundamental to life and law, was humility without hubris and humanist hearing without “high bench” hauteur. The second value, was the compassionate treasury of the Preamble to the Constitution, particularly its five opening words, “ We, the People of India”, as the democratic imperative which bound him. The third imperative was to hear either side fairly since courage and independence obligated him “to give (even) the devil his due”, whether he be in the right or in the wrong. And the last one, was that “perfect justice is a mirage”.
Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala addressed the students next, and his charm and wit brought smiles to each and every individual who heard him. Sir, spoke about how knowledge shall always prevail and would never part from an individual in any circumstance. He also emphasized on how what we learn is all we have at the end and laid stress on how one must always keep learning.
This was followed by the giving away the Awards of Excellence to the students of the graduating batches.
