Dr Vibhuti Jaswal (Batch of 2017) has authored a book titled “Right to Privacy on Social Media: Analytical Study”. She has done LL.M. and Ph.D. from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab and stood first and bagged the University Gold Medal in the former. Currently, she is working in the Army Institute of Law as part of the core faculty.
Previously, she has also co-authored a book on “Environmental Law” which has been referred to by the Supreme Court. Dr. Vibhuti is a keen researcher, and she has published Research Papers in UGC CARE List Journals and contributed Chapters to various books. She has also been participating in various National and International Conferences, Seminars and Workshops.
The book primarily focuses on the aspect that the right to privacy is an emerging concept which is inbuilt into the right to one’s own identity. As its branches are being added on at a good pace, she has aimed to include physical, mental, informational, decisional and data privacy among its other facets.
Through her book, she has emphasised on the perennial significance of the right to privacy. The Supreme Court has declared the right to live with human dignity as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution and consequently right to privacy has also been brought within its ambit. It has not only created awareness among the people but also a desire to protect one’s right to privacy. This book will be a source of knowledge for the legal fraternity touching on the issues pertaining to different stakeholders.
She personally opines that the right to privacy shall be taken as a natural right and that it can be protected only when there is reciprocal recognition of this right. It is an established principle, that rights and duties are correlative.
Her quest for knowledge and her vehement interest in the field of right to privacy were the driving forces in her successful endeavour to author this book.
The Bluepencil congratulates her on her achievement and wishes her all the very best for all her future endeavours!
