Anil Mehta (class of 2008) has been appointed as the Senior Standing Counsel in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, by UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit. The post of Senior Standing Counsel in the Union Territory of Chandigarh is equivalent to advocate general in state.
He was appointed for a three-year term in lieu of Justice Pankaj Jain, who was recently elevated to the High Court. The senior standing counsel is the UT administration’s leading civil law officer before the High Court.
For the purpose of selection for the post, a selection committee of Additional Solicitor General, Advisor to the Administrator, Home Secretary and Legal Remembrancer was constituted. A total number of 15 candidates appeared for position out of which Anil Mehta was recommended.
Anil Mehta represents government organization such as NHAI, FCI, Central University, Haryana, and Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, in Punjab and Haryana University. He has served as the deputy advocate general of Haryana from 2014 to 2018. Following that, he became an additional standing counsel at the UT.
