Recently Shreya Singh (5th Year) got placed at Argus Partners, Solicitors and Advocates, Delhi. The Blue Pencil team sat down with her for a few questions.
What is the kind of work environment and what matters does the firm deal with?
The firm provides a holistic and intern friendly work environment. The associates are very helpful and guide you throughout the project. The firm is a service law firm which inter alia deals with Corporate Restructuring & Insolvency, Dispute Resolution, Mergers and Acquisitions and tax matters.
How did you get this internship?
I got the internship by applying to the HR department of the firm followed by a questionnaire.
What kind of work was delegated to you during the internship?
I mainly dealt with consumer, arbitration, insolvency and bankruptcy matters while working at the firm.
In your opinion, what are firms looking for in their interns, in terms of skills and work?
Firms look for Commitment, Diligence and Quality of work.
Do you have any tips regarding-
A. How students should plan their internships?
B. How many internships should they have before they can get a PPO?
A. Students must plan their internship keeping the following things in mind:
1. Shortlist a few firms which deal with the practice areas of your choice.
2. Do not go by the rating of the firm or with the intention to just get a big name on your CV.
3. While on internship, be smart with the work you do. There is no substitute to hard work. However, make sure that your work is acknowledged.
B. There is no specific number. It is absolutely subjective to the firm and depends on the performance of the intern.
Any other advice?
Don’t be afraid of a slow start. Have faith in your potential and when an opportunity comes your way grab it with both hands.
The Blue Pencil team thanks her for taking out time to talk to us and wishes her the best in all future endeavors!
