He walked with palpating nerves on the pitch. Heart throbbed recklessly and the beads of sweat adorned his temples. ‘Player’, that he was… As the audience cheered hard and the merriment reverberated the entire ground, he could feel his ears getting red hot and pumping of blood through his veins. He closed his eyes and recalled the morning and evening practices which had led him there.
He gripped the bat, and told himself that this is the opportunity he can’t let go of, because either it was now, or it was never.
A Cricket League was organized by Amanbir Bajwa, the College Cricket Team Captain, in collaboration with the rest of outgoing batch of 2018, the Fifth year, whose Final rounds were conducted on Aril 17th, Tuesday, in the college ground.
The league comprised of four teams at total- ‘Rajasthan Royals’ (Sandeep Singh, C.), ‘U.P. Wale’ (Ankit Yadav, C.), ‘Rest of India’ (Amanbir Bajwa, C.) and ‘Kings XI Punjab’ (Vivid Sharda, C.). The preliminary rounds, which commenced on April 09th, were conducted with each team competing against the others, spanning the 12 matches over an entire week. After a tough competition, Rajasthan Royals, and RoI (a very creative acronym for ‘Rest of India’) competed against each other in Finale. Finally, Rajasthan Royals emerged victorious with 12 runs. The highest score in the entire league was made by our College team Captain, Amanbir Bajwa, who left the pitch with whopping 91 runs on his name, while Rajendra Bhargava managed to bag 5 wickets in an inning, marking his name highest in the slots of Wicket-taker.
All in all, it was an event full of zeal and energy which made the audience’s day. The limits of dynamism of cricket, the Gentlemen’s game, were reset on the pitch. As the fifth years played their one of the last matches on the pitch as if ‘there is no end to it’, the cheerfulness mixed with nostalgia and made it a memorable sight. We congratulate all the players of the league for playing it nobly and fairly. After all, they all are ‘gentlemen’ in their very own spheres!
