We got in touch with the students currently in their fifth year to tell us about the subjects that are offered as optional subjects to them in the eighth semester. The subjects that are available to the students in this semester are Insurance Law, Financial Marketing Regulation and Law on Education. TBP has come up with a post which specifically provides for the individual experiences of students’ who have studied these subjects.
1. INSURANCE LAW
“Our syllabus basically covers 3 insurance sectors- Life, Fire and Marine. The syllabus is really limited, you don’t really get to study the related laws, rather it’s a very vague syllabus. You first learn about what insurance is and then the three Kinds are explained in the 3 units (though there are plenty more kinds).”
– Aakriti Suri, 5th Year.
“Insurance law basically deals with the meaning of insurance and the fundamental principles dealing with insurance. It also talks about Life, Fire Marine insurance. Ramneek Ma’am taught us this subject.
The syllabus of Punjabi University is not very apt for the practical approach but from the perspective of placements, it is beneficial.”
–Shweta Singh, 5th Year.
2. FINANCIAL MARKETING REGULATION
“It’s a slightly technical subject but very useful because it covers the basics of securities law. It’s not in nearly as much detail as we should be learning the subject though. But it’s a good start and advisable for anyone with even the slightest interest in corporate law. There’s no single textbook but ICSI notes are available online for every topic. It isn’t super scoring but is moderately so.
Another good thing about the subject is that it includes basics of competition law also, so if you don’t want to do Competition Law in detail in the fifth year you can do the essentials in FMR.”
–Malavika Devaya, 5th Year (Isn’t she a cutie?)
3. LAW ON EDUCATION
“Law on Education as a subject is very easy to understand. The course is formulated in such a way that one gets to learn how the importance of education has increased at various levels with the help of various international and national legal framework. The most important statute regarding free and compulsory education i.e. RTE Act, 2009 has also been highlighted in the course. So in totality, it is the simplest and the easiest option to go for.”
–Geetika Garg, 5th Year.
