Any and all kinds of stage performances can be nerve wracking, especially with an indifferent and critical audience. But that was not the situation at the first cultural Thursday activity of session 2017-18 at Army Institute Of Law. Be it fumbling and nervous first years or goofy fourth years trying to crack up the audience, everyone was met with a resounding applause and immense enthusiasm; jokes and high notes were both equally encouraged. The judges for the competition were Professor Bajirao and Professor Ekjot Kaur. The rules were simple, every participant was to come up on stage and sing to their hearts content. The performances took us on a ride with Rajasthani folks songs, enthralling Telugu numbers, popular Bollywood tracks, washing powder commercials as well as a heartfelt tribute to Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington and the musical evolution of Hindi music over the last six decades. Popular favorites were demanded again and the audience screamed themselves hoarse in order to support their batch mates and seniors alike. Every little break between the musical melodies was fully taken care of by the hosts of the competition and their witty words. It was the love, encouragement and enthusiasm of the spectators that eased the nervousness of the performers and made the atmosphere absolutely and completely electric.
The party spirits eventually came to a stop as the results were announced. In the solo singing category, the second position was bagged by Mriganka Bhakay (4th Year), and the first position was bagged by Sahyaja (2nd Year), in the group singing category the fist position was awarded to Srishti and Sunidhi (1st Year).
