On 18th of February 2016, Army institute of Law, had the pleasure of having Inspector General of Police, Mr. Naunihal Singh, over for a guest lecture. Sir was here with the young minds to share a few words of wisdom on ‘Innovation and Profession.’ Mr. Naunihal Singh completed his master’s degree in Geography for the Punjab University in 1995, and joined the Indian Police Services in the year 1997. Post graduation, he attained a master’s degree in Police Administration from Osmania University in Hyderabad in the year 1999. He has been awarded with the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Mr. Singh has served as the S.S.P of 9 Districts of Punjab and is currently the Inspector General of Patiala zone.
In his lecture he explained the importance of innovation in one’s profession. He emphasized on the need of being more innovative as it helps in finding solutions to the problems in a more efficient manner. Problems which seem to have no cure can easily be dealt with innovative ideas and can be solved in a better and a more efficient manner than the contemporary protocol-led solutions. He further elucidated the same with his examples, like, how the Punjab Police solved the issues of non-registration of FIR’s for the cases of molestation, sexual harassment and rape, popularization of drug trade amongst youngsters and how the dead codes of gangs like “Kalla-Kacha” were successfully broken with little bit of innovation in the daily functioning. Mr. Naunihal Singh proudly claims that no rape took place in Chandigarh in the year when he was serving as the SSP.
In the end he summed by enlightening the students about the change in the IPS preparation, then and now, and motivated the students to work hard and achieve success in their lives. It was an interactive and informative session.
