The Thursday activity on 21st February,2019 included the final round of the Intra College Debate, 2019. The debate provides an incredible opportunity for the college students of all batches to showcase their debating skills which hold extensive importance in the professional field of law. Elimination rounds for the same were held on 18th February, 2019. The topic for the eliminations of the Intra Institute Debate 2019 was “Me Too Movement : Securing workplace security or getting even?” The debaters were expected to speak from the proposition and the opposition stance for 3 minutes each. Out of all the appearing teams, the best 8 were selected to debate before the audience in the Thursday afternoon’s activity.
The topic for the Intra college Debate was released a day before the Competition, the topic being extremely relevant to the modern era- “Social Media Trial: subverts the rule of law“ The debate commenced with immense enthusiasm amongst the audience. Rules of the much awaited competition were declared by the M.C.. Each team was allowed to present the proposition and opposition stance on the motion in 6 minutes. The teams were also allowed to present their speech in either Hindi or English dialect. Every speaker shared their pool of knowledge and research through their orations. They were also asked questions about their speeches by the audience to which they all replied with wit and wisdom that showcased how well versed and informed they were with the motion. The student head of the Debate Society Virinda Kumar gave the gathering, a gist of the working and achievements of the DEBSOC of AIL. The judges also presented their opinions on the decorum of the debate. The Principal gave away the prizes : Aafreen Choudhary was adjudged the Best Speaker, the Runners Up team and cash prize went to Rashmi and Ankit Malik. Kainat Singh and Shashank Mishra were adjudged as the best team. They also received the enormous Running trophy with cash prize. The principal of the institute Dr. Tejinder Kaur also felicitated the judges for their benign presence. It was indeed an informative and a knowledgeable experience for the audience as well as the speakers.
